Parable of the Flood – author unknown
- Once upon a time, in a place not so far away, a city warning sounded out that a terrible storm was approaching. Residents were advised to evacuate for fear of a flood. Not everyone left however. You had those who didn’t believe the warning, saying that it hadn’t flooded before and wouldn’t this time either. In addition to these who stayed behind was one man, a very faithful man, a man who put his entire trust in God. He thought to himself, even if the floodwaters come, God will save me. This is what he told his neighbors when they offered him a ride out of town.
- Well, the flood did come. The water slowly began to climb his house. A small canoe paddled by and offered help. He turned it down stating that God would save him. The waters continued to rise. He retreated to the second floor. A police boat came by and offered assistance, by he likewise declined. The waters then followed him to the roof. This time a police helicopter dropped a ladder and besieged him to climb aboard. He refused, his faith in God being too strong for such worldly help. They eventually turned away.
- The man drowned. When he reached heaven, he asked rather baffledly why he hadn’t been rescued; he had been super faithful. The answer was calm and simple. We sent a warning, and then sent help three times. Why didn’t you act?
